A low-emission value chain
Lightweighting with Amstrong® for efficiency and impact
As electrification accelerates, industries face new challenges, particularly the payload penalty. Reducing the total weight of moving equipment is essential. Our high-strength steel solutions contribute by:
- Offering lightweighting benefits, which reduce material use and energy consumption.
- Providing access to low carbon-emissions steel through our XCarb® recycled and renewably produced steel offer, with up to 70% reduction in carbon footprint versus steel made via the conventional blast furnace route.
XCarb® a pathway to low-carbon steel
XCarb® is ArcelorMittal’s global initiative to accelerate the transition to net-zero steelmaking. It brings together all low and zero-carbon steelmaking activities, including:
- Recycled and renewably produced steel, made using electric arc furnaces powered by renewable energy.
- Steel certificates, which help customers reduce their Scope 3 emissions and demonstrate climate-conscious sourcing.
- We already deliver steel with significantly reduced emissions, and we are scaling up our efforts to support our customers in meeting their sustainability goals.
XCarb® steel certificates
- Allowing customers to reduce their or their customers’ scope 3 emissions.
- Can be purchased directly from ArcelorMittal Europe – Flat Products in conjunction with a corresponding steel order.
XCarb® recycled and renewably produced
Applied to steels produced in an electric arc furnace (EAF) using scrap and 100-percent renewable electricity.
XCarb® recycled and renewably produced:
hot rolled coils
For hot rolled coils this results in a CO2 footprint of 600 kg CO2e per tonne of hot rolled coils.
XCarb® recycled and renewably produced:
hot rolled coils pickled & oiled
For hot rolled coils this results in a CO2 footprint of 658 kg CO2e per tonne of hot rolled coils – picked & oiled.
