Co-engineering partnership with Konsorcjum Stali targets growth in high-strength steels’ market
Konsorcjum Stali and ArcelorMittal have signed an MoU to build their cooperation in promoting ArcelorMittal’s Amstrong® hot rolled steel products and their co-engineering solutions – all designed for the growing market in tough and demanding industrial applications.
Konsorcjum Stali is one of the largest steel distributors in Poland, employing over 700 people, and has been working with ArcelorMittal since 2004. It operates 3 reinforcement plants and 2 service centres. These include two modern sheet metal processing plants in Kraków and Częstochowa with cutting and slitting lines.

2 new cutting lines being installed in its Częstochowa plant this year will increase the company’s capacity on flat products by 100%. This new capacity offers both companies the chance to develop their partnership on high-strength, low-alloy (HSLA) steel grades within the Amstrong® product family.
Amstrong® is ArcelorMittal’s range of HSLA structural steels developed specifically for high mechanical performance, weight savings and processing efficiency, for industries including transport, construction machinery, agricultural equipment and general engineering.

Amstrong® and Amstrong® Ultra are ideally suited to the structural performance requirements of a wide range of industrial, transport and agricultural applications.
High strength steels are gaining market momentum across these sectors due to lightweighting, advantages, durability and life cycle cost savings. Central and Eastern Europe, including Poland, have become critical production hubs for multinational OEMs, as supply chains have reshaped geographically in recent years. Expanding fabrication capacity there, combined with near-shoring of equipment manufacturing, and increased defence and infrastructure investment, is driving above average regional growth and accelerating adoption of (ultra) high strength Amstrong® and Amstrong® Ultra products.
“The high-strength steel market in Poland has significant growth potential for us, and we are investing strategically in our capacity and technical expertise to support it. We greatly value our enhanced partnership and collaboration with ArcelorMittal, not least for the qualities of their Amstrong® portfolio. The depth and breadth of their expertise and service support enables a unique co-engineering offering to develop the best solutions for our customers, says Janusz Smołka, President of the Management Board, Konsorcjum Stali. “It’s a win-win for both companies.”
Amstrong® has yield strengths of up to and including 600 MPa and, with its excellent weldability and formability, is therefore ideal for structural components that require increased strength without added thickness. It is produced in coils, slits coils and cut-to-length sheets, and complies with EN10149-2.
Amstrong® Ultra is ArcelorMittal’s range of ultra high-strength structural steels where weight reduction, high fatigue resistance and structural integrity are critical. With minimum yield strengths from 650 to 960 MPa, it enables manufacturers to design lighter, stronger and longer components without compromising on safety and reliability.
The MoU was signed on 21 April 2026 at the Konsorcjum Stali service centre in Częstochowa. Konsorcjum Stali’s new investment includes 2 new “state-of-the-art” cut-to-length lines, combining roller levelling and tension straightening, thereby removing ‘shape memory’ characteristics in the finished material. The new lines enable continuous cutting of entire coils without any disturbance or slow down, further improving product quality.

“We are delighted to be strengthening our ties with Konsorcjum Stali, especially with the growth potential of our Amstrong® product portfolio in Poland and Central Europe. We have been impressed by their ongoing expansion and expertise, and we see their investment in Częstochowa as very well timed to offer enhanced capabilities in high-strength steels,” Amstrong® and Amstrong® Ultra fulfil all the requirements for customers seeking impressive structural strength, but low weight solutions for the challenges of demanding applications such as construction equipment, transport, defence and agriculture,” comments Tomasz Plaskura – CMO East Europe ArcelorMittal Europe Flat Products.
